With a global financial crisis and growing inflation the numbers on unemployment were not what you think in Egypt…

Unemployment rose by 2% from the years 2018/2019 to 2019/2020 reaching 9.6%, which was attributed to the first covid wave, the following years saw slow but continuous improvement.

Unemployment went down the following year to become 7.5% and this year it is expected to go down a little bit more to be 7.2% according to the annual report of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development.

This slow but positive improvement reflects the decreasing impact of covid however it remains to be seen how the current world events would impact Egypt economically in the coming years…
