Well, it’s that time of year again when Apple releases its latest installment of its famed iPhone series in the iPhone 14. As usual, the release is causing quite the stir among Apple fans in particular and the mobile phone market in general.

So whether you’re an iPhone owner who’s considering an upgrade or just curious about what’s new with iPhone 14, we’ve got you covered. We’ve prepared a brief comparison for you between iPhone 14 and its predecessor, the famed iPhone 13, read on for more on that.

Model Discontinuations

Gone are the days of the iPhone Mini. Instead, the iPhone 14 comes in 2 models, the 6.1-inch iPhone 14 and a 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Plus. Both models are quite identical, the main differences are the screen size and battery life.

A relative jump in size if you compare them to the 6.1-inch iPhone 13 and the 5.4-inch iPhone 13 mini. This marks the iPhone 13 mini as the last remaining compact iPhone (at the time of writing this article).

Pricing

The iPhone 14 currently goes for $799 but if you have your eyes set on the iPhone 14 plus, you’ll need to shell out 100 more dollars and buy it for $899. You’ll have to wait a fair bit though, it still comes out on October 7 2022.

Alternatively, you can obtain a brand-new iPhone 13 for 699$ or an iPhone 13 mini for $599.

Design and Display

At first glance, both the iPhone 14 and iPhone 13 are quite similar. They are both made of glass and aluminum with glossy backs and the front glass is covered by a layer of ceramic for added durability and protection.

Both employ the same camera module approach by going with diagonally arranged lenses in favor of vertically stacked ones from older pre-iPhone 13 models.

iPhone 14 is available in a variety of colors: Midnight, Starlight, Blue, Purple, and Red. As for the iPhone 13, the available colors are Pink, Blue, Midnight, Starlight, Green and Red.

This, however, is where many of the similarities end. Upon taking a closer look at the iPhone 14, we find that there’s a significant improvement in the phone’s thermal performance over iPhone 13 and a new Emergency SOS satellite feature that enables you get help even in the absence of a cellular connection.

As opposed to iPhone 13 and older models, iPhone 14 –sold in the United States of America– will not include a SIM tray thus making it an eSIM-only phone. eSIM phones are currently not supported in Egypt, so if you were planning on purchasing your phone from the States, you might want to rethink your plans and preferably get it somewhere within the Middle East instead where the phone would include the SIM tray.

Finally, both the iPhone 14 and iPhone 13 have 6.1-inch OLED displays, featuring HDR support, 800 nits of brightness and 1,2000 nits of peak brightness with HDR content. However, you can go even bigger with the iPhone 14 Plus curtesy of its 6.7-inch size.

Performance & Battery Life

While new iPhone models usually come with new chipsets, this is not the case this time around with Apple deciding to stay loyal to the high-end A15 bionic chipset used in the iPhone 13.

The iPhone 14 comes with a 5 core GPU which is a notable upgrade over the iPhone 13 6 core CPU which should result in a general performance boost for mobile gaming/game processing.

The iPhone 14 should be capable of running up to 20 hours of video playback, 16 hours of streamed video and 80 hours of audio. A handsome upgrade over the iPhone 13 figures which were 19 hours, 15 hours and 75 hours.

If you decided to go with an iPhone 14 Plus though, these numbers scale even higher to reach 26, 20 and 100 hours.

Camera

Similar to the iPhone 13, the iPhone 14 comes with a pair of rear 12MP cameras. One a main camera, the other an ultrawide shooter. The iPhone 14’s main sensor though, is much larger than that of iPhone 13 with bigger pixels (1.9 microns), and with a faster f/1.5 aperture and sensor-shift image stabilization).

Accordingly, you can expect a significant improvement in quality of photos and video, delivering better detail and less noise. An improvement in Night mode should also be expected with the exposure now twice as fast. A Photonic Engine feature helps improve low-light performance across all of the cameras.

Video recording fans should also be happy to know that Apple has introduced a new Action mode that is designed to add better stabilization to videos taken on the go on the iPhone 14.
